We kind of ended on a dark note last week, and for that I do not apologize. Shit was dark growing up in the cult. So I do not apologize for you seeing the nastiness for a brief moment; because, I lived it for years. This one is honestly pretty dark as well. Let's just jump right into it... SAH's 12th component of Behavior Control within the BITE Model is: "Discourage individualism, encourage group-think". Scary right? What would the group leader do or say to rot away our individualism and encourage group-think? Why would that be beneficial to the progression of the cult as a whole? How would that help the leader extend his role? hmmmmmmmm......
STORY TIME!
While I was in the cult, there were many things that the cult leader would have us all do to encourage us to strip ourselves of our individualism and encourage us to all be/act/look/talk/THINK the same. One way the leader would do this, very subtly, would be to have the members of the group do clothing exchanges instead of buying new clothes. Every few months one of the henchman's wives would host a get together at he house (approved by the leader, of course) and invite everyone to bring their closets to her house so the group members could all do a clothing exchange. I remember seeing upwards of 7 people get to wear the same clothing before the article was retired. While economically, environmentally, and communally, this is awesome! Reusing clothing and recycling things you don't want, it's great! However, not so much so when it's done in the name of keeping us all looking the same while giving us the experience having "new" clothes and household items. Another way we would all be encouraged to think the same was by being rewarded or punished for deterring from what was an acceptable belief. If I said, "I believe in aliens"- which is outside of group think I would be punished. The longer I would keep my head down and stay in line, the more I was rewarded with praise, dinners out, opportunities to get within the inner circle of the cult (which was everyone's ultimate goal). Now, here is where it starts to get kinda dark. One way that the leader encouraged group-think was to pay for everyone who was age-eligible to get their concealed carry license. Car loads of members went to get their concealed carry license who had no business with a gun. Then, these members were encouraged to carry their guns to services in case there was an attack, they would be ready. In other words BE PREEEEEEPAAAAAAAAAARED!!!!! smh
Are you or someone you know being striped of their individualism and being encouraged to think as a group? If you ever suspect this... GET AWAY... GET OUT... call me, the police, a trusted person who is outside of the group. Please, let us help you.
Until all children get to grow up as unique as their fingerprint, I hope the sperm of your lineage dries up.
