Kitty BITE Back Series Episode 29: No Deception.. No Deceit.. NO 2 U liMes (ur a liar and i hate u)

Heyooooo! I have been so busy with so many things! I've got married and moved all within 'bout 2 months (shit has been crazy)! However, I am ready to get back into writing; especially because we just started Information Control!

The first component of Information Control as described by SAH is:

"Deception: a. Deliberately withhold information b. Distort information to make it more acceptable c. Systematically lie to the cult member"

Why would a cult leader, or any group leader/authority figure use deception as a tactic to control the information an individual has access to? What information is being deliberately withheld from members? Why does information need to be distorted to make it more acceptable? Why are leaders and henchmen systematically lying to cult members? What does systematically lying mean?

STORY TIME!

A.) Deliberately withhold information: When I was in the cult, the leader would deliberately withhold information for many things. Some of these things included (but are not limited to) withholding information about how money was being spent, projects in the works, and intentions of himself and his henchmen. The cult leader would withhold any and all information about how the tithe, offerings, and pledges (the breakdown of these are discussed in previous episodes) were being spent. He would collect 10% of all income (tithe), 25% minimum of income (offerings) and however much each person was pledging and then never once showed anyone a breakdown of how that money was being spent. He many times said that because there wasn't a board that hired him that there wasn't anyone to oversee him except God. PUKE! So many people in that cult (my mom included) gave him thousands of dollars every month and then never knew how that money truly was being spent. He would also deliberately withhold information about projects that were in the works for the cult. He bought new property, built new buildings, partnered with other cults, and created/executed many other projects that he never disclosed any information about (even after they were done). One day we were having a service and he started talking about how they bought the house access the street and the land beside it to expand. He not only deliberately withheld the information about spending a large amount of money on it but also withheld information about the project of building on the land beside the house. He was also deliberately withholding information about the intentions of himself and his henchmen. Many times I, or others, were being coaxed into believing that they had good intentions. It is deceitful how they would use love-bombing, gaslighting, and other abusive tactics to withhold their true intentions in a situation.

B.)Distort information to make it more acceptable: This applied especially to the news. We were not allowed to take in any information that wasn't a direct publication of the cult; so, we never new any news. I knew some things because my grandmother lived with us until she passed in 2008. When she would talk about the news or watch it I would get bits and pieces of information but never enough to see a full picture (also I was a child). He was especially good at taking information that he had gained about the news and distorted it to make it seem like the cult was under attack. This was mostly used as a scare tactic to make people pray more, give more. money, take ALL FORMS of abuse, and fast more. He would use information in the news and almost make up his own story. As someone who wasn't allowed to take certain classes in high school because they were deemed "worldly", I still, AS A 28 YEAR OLD ADULT, don't know the full difference in the truth of history and what the cult leader brainwashed us to think. I never understood how every single service he had a new reason that the media was trying to do x, y, z. As someone who experiences second hand embarrassment, I was EMBARRASSED for this GROWN ASS MAN to be so scared of universal healthcare or new school state standards. Some of the things he was distorting was so far fetched to the average person; but, to a cult member, seemed to be the god's honest truth- literally. It was just recently that I saw the inside of a bible that wasn't one of the "approved bibles" of the cult. I had no idea that not all bibles had hand written edits and highlights; stories in the margins and bits of information added or omitted. That's how deep the distortion goes. When I became a member of the cult, they gave me an approved bible. The cover was black. It had my name embossed on the bottom right side. When opened, it was full of all the notes and edits that someone had previously made (I'm assuming the cult leader). It's honestly terrifying to think that there is someone, in your own hometown, in your own neighborhood and backyard, that believes that he is so far above everything and everyone that he has the ability to add and edit the Bible. I don't believe in god and I don't even own a bible; but, that's sickening!

C.)Systematically lie to the cult member: What is systematically lying? Let's define it. Systematically lying- synnonym: pathologically lying. Well... isn't that telling! Why would the cult leader pathologically lie to cult members? Many reasons: membership retention, scare tactics, to gain power or money, abuse, to beat people down, I could continue this list for the rest of my life and never end. The cult leader lied to us about many things. Just look at the rules, regulations, and doctrine that is being spewed.... lies. Lying to someone puts a power imbalance in place. It makes it so that the person lying now has something over on the member. It's sickening. I can only imagine all the things I was lied to about. I recently learned that OTC medication works and isn't poison. I'm going to make another post about thing I learned after leaving the cult, stay tuned for that episode.

If you or someone you know has someone in their life that is being deceitful or lying to them, please reach out to that person and make sure they are aware and that they are safe. So many times we just assume the other person knows this is happening to them and many times they do not. Having someone in your corner to let you know when shit has gone airy is honestly the most helpful thing that person could have.
