Heyyooooo Jellies! How are you doin'?!?!? I was looking today at all the episodes of this series we've had; and, I just can't believe that we are already on our 20th episode!!! We are well over halfway through Behavior Control and will soon be moving on to Information Control. I feel like I have told a lot of my story but there is still so much more that I haven't even begun to uncover with y'all.

This week we are going to talk about the 18th component of Behavior Control under the BITE Model as described by SAH is, "Instill dependency and obedience". This is the basis of what the cult leader is cultivating within the group; dependency and obedience.

STORY TIME!

  • While I was in the cult there were a few ways that the cult leader would try and instill dependency and obedience in members. He would do things like: 1. Intentionally keep families poor so they are reliant on the resources of the cult and other members, 2. Instill patriarchal and misogynistic values in families, 3. Keep families breeding with families (incest) to keep outsiders from creeping in, 4. Discourage parents from giving their child a public or private education (encourage families to home school bible studies with their children), 5. Use corporal punishment with anyone from 6 month to 100 years old (yes, the elderly), 6. Misuse scripture to instill fear in members (keep members following cult standards), 7. Make up paranormal stories to reinforce cult teachings, 8. Make up rules and standards as new social practices arise, 9. Strip individualism and encourage members to dress, think, act, look, and speak the same, 10. Keep members sleep deprived and tired enough to be agreeable and gullible. This shit is disgusting. The cult leader would do any number of these things in a single service to a number of group members to keep them under his ever ruling thumb. If members stepped out of line, were disobedient, or became too independent, they would be punished- verbally assaulted, emotionally abused, or even physically attacked.

If you or someone you know is having dependency or obedience instilled in them by a group of people, please get as far away from that as you can. Call me, the polices. someone outside of the situation/group, anyone. Get help. Get out.

I feel like I saw this in maybe Mariah’s grandmother? Or someone in her family it was around their eyes like they were sleep deprived? Maybe it was just an illness. Maybe even Melissa too, she always seemed kinda of tired and as I grew older she was losing weight too.
