Kitty BITE Back Episode 32: Are your members in the KGB, liMes??? Because they sure SPY LIKE IT!!!!!

Hey my lovelies! How have y'all been??? Things have been good over here. Lot's of therapy to go around! I hope that you enjoyed the last episode and that it made you as angry as this shit makes me.

Anyway, here we go!

The 4th component of Information Control in the BITE Model as described by SAH is:

"Encourage spying on other members a. Impose a buddy system to monitor and control member b. Report deviant thoughts, feelings and actions to leadership c. Ensure that individual behavior is monitored by group"

Spying is used in many cults to keep tabs on members. This could be anything from spying on members to gain information about them their families, finances, thoughts, emotions to spying on members who are close to leaving a group so that they can reign them back in. Any spying on anyone for any reason is disgusting; but, it was done in the cult that I grew up in; so, let's get right down to it!

Story Time!

A. Encourage spying on other members [by] Impos[ing] a buddy system to monitor and control member[s]- When I was growing up in the cult, there were many times that the cult leader would impose a buddy/chaperone system in order to spy on members. In a previous episode I described how people (no matter their age) would have to have a chaperone when they went out on dates. This was to keep members from engaging in behavior deemed inappropriate by the cult leader and so that the cult leader had an inside view into what was happening when they were together. The cult leader would also have people theat he was close with buddy up with newer members to "mentor" them. This very quickly turned into spying on them to see if they were backsliding and engaging in inappropriate behavior as deemed by the cult leader.

B. Encourage spying on other members [by] report[ing] deviant thoughts, feelings and actions to leadership- These are the things that would be reported to the cult leader and his minions by the spies ("mentors"). They would report anything and everything that you were saying to the cult leader. The cult leader always knew things about me that I had told my friends in the cult. Once I realized that they were, in fact, spying on me, I stopped talking to them about my life. I kept all the feelings of resentment, disbelief, sexual promiscuity, and all other deviantness to myself.

C. Encourage spying on other members [to] ensure that individual behavior is monitored by group- The group was always monitoring each other for just the slightest of hiccups or infractions to run and tell the cult leader.

Spying on each other was something that was rewarded with praise, dinners, trips with the cult leader, and the best of all, safety from abuse. I never spied on anyone in the cult. I never felt comfortable running to the cult leader to tell him what others where doing in their free time. And I especially didn't want anyone spying on me or my family.

If you or anyone you know is being spied on by a group of people, go to someone you trust and the police. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200. get someone safe and get as far away from that group as you can. It may save your life.

Until the last spy not longer runs to you, may you have a million eyes on you.
